How To Manage Oily Skin – Cleanser, Mask & Moisturizer

Some say that oily skin is a gift, a blessing, because it means that you’ll keep a youthful glow and wrinkle less as you age. Others who deal with oily skin daily may have different feelings about it. Oily skin can often bring acne and that “natural glow” can make your makeup seem like it is just melting off your face. But with the right products, ones that were designed with your oily skin in mind, managing oily skin can be easy!

How to Manage Oily Skin in 3 Steps

Managing Oily Skin, Part 1

Today, I’m going to share with you the best products for managing oily skin beginning with the basics – a grime removing cleanser, a great charcoal mask for a deep clean and an ultra-matte moisturizer. This post is part 1 of a 2-part series that I’m putting together on oily skin management. Part 1 covers the products I use and recommend for cleansing and priming your face and part 2 will cover make-up and setting products to keep the oily shine away throughout the day. Stay tuned for part 2! It will make it’s debut on the blog later this week.

Steps to Managing Oily Skin:

Step 1: Make-Up Remover & Cleanser

By the time bedtime rolls around, I’m usually ready to just flop into bed. Between working full-time, cooking dinner, doing the daily chores, spending quality time with my family and planning a wedding, I’ve got very few minutes of free time in my day. But isn’t that how we all fee? We are all busy, busy, busy and looking for quick and easy solutions. When it comes to removing your make-up and properly cleansing your face, you don’t want to take any short cuts. Short cuts will cost you, especially with oily-skin that is prone to collecting dirt and grime throughout the day. But, one way to save time is to combine the two steps into one with a cleaner that doubles as a make-up remover.

Boscia Detoxifying Black Charcoal Cleanser

I’ve tried many cleanser, make-up remover duos out there that boast great results and clearer skin, but most fall short. Typically, I’m left with make-up residue on my face, which might as well negate the fact that I just cleansed it. But, there is one that does the trick and actually follows through on it’s promise – Boscia’s Detoxifying Black Cleanser.

Product Description: A black charcoal face cleanser that warms on contact and visibly reduces pore size, lifts impurities, bans excess oil, exfoliates, and brightens the complexion.

Step 2: Charcoal Facial Mask

Once your skin has been cleansed, I recommend following up with a charcoal mask to further remove dirt and impurities from your pores. Using a face mask once or twice a week after cleansing helps to give your oily-skin that deep clean it needs and really work to remove the gunk that is stuck deep down in your pores. I’ve tried a couple different types of masks with different clays or removal agents and have begun to favor charcoal masks for my skin type. Clay masks make my skin feel overly dry right after using and then put my skin on over drive to produce more oil than usual to combat the dryness.

Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask

Origins Clear Improvement mask works wonders on my skin! It removes impurities from my pores better than any other mask I’ve tried and doesn’t dry out my skin. My pores were visibly smaller after just one use and my skin was left feeling smooth and healthy. The Origins clear improvement mask contains active charcoal that works like a magnet to suck the dirt and grim from your pores.

Product Description: Nature’s complexion clean-up crew clears the way for skin to act its best. Bamboo Charcoal acts like a magnet to draw out deep-dwelling pore-cloggers, White China Clay absorbs environmental toxins, Lecithin dissolves impurities. Skin looks clear, feels perfectly pure.

Step 3: Matte Moisturizer

Seems counterintuitive right, putting moisturizer on your skin that is already naturally oily? As strange as it may sound, using the right moisturizer is a crucial step in managing oily skin. Leaving your skin dry after cleansing and using a face mask can cause your skin to kick into overdrive and start producing more oil than necessary to compensate for the dryness. But, for my oily-skinned friends out there, be sure to pick the right kind of moisturizer for your skin!Glam Glow Volcasmic Matte Glow Moisturizer

Oily skin requires a special kind of moisturizer that hydrates without adding extra oils. Oil-free moisturizers are great, but if you really want to get a handle on your oily skin look for a mattifying moisturizer. GLAMGLOW’s Volcasmic moisturizer is AMAZING! It checks all of the boxes for a great moisturizer – hydration, smooth texture, refreshing – while adding a mattifying layer over your skin that prevents oil from building up. It works great as the final step in your beauty routine for days when you rock your fresh face, but also works as a matte primer for your makeup when you feel like getting creative.

Product Description: Formulated with volcanic minerals that act like microscopic sponges to help soak up oil, making skin instantly smooth but never shiny. The water balm formula delivers optimal hydration and, if used in the morning, provides a prepped, even canvas for flawless makeup application.

Pairing these three miracle working products together along with a regimented skin care routine has really helped me get a handle on my oily skin and start to appreciate it. Steps 1 through 3 set the foundation for healthy, beautiful skin that glows instead of shines.

Stay tuned for Part 2 of this series on managing oily skin, where I cover steps 4 – 7 of my beauty routine. We’ll touch on the importance of a matte foundation and concealer, an oil absorbing loose powder and a setting spray to seal all of your hard work in for the day.

Until next time!

With love,

Tori
